Prayer Before Holy Confession (spoken by Jesus).

Dictated by Our Lord to Sr. Benigna Consolata Ferrero (d. 1916):

“Preparation for Holy Confession:

My Jesus, my most pure Jesus, Immaculate Lamb, Divine Pelican, who in this Sacrament of Mercy has created a saving bath out of Thy Precious Blood, in which we may cleanse our souls and purify them from every stain*; Thou who art a most pure Lily and lov’st to be surrounded by lilies, grant that I may approach this divine Sacrament with the dispositions Thy Heart desires to find in me, so that I may participate in the treasures of grace inclosed in this mine of love. O Jesus, what Thou desirest most is to find in the soul a great depth of humility; dig deep, then, O Jesus, and fill it with Thy divine Mercy; infuse also in my heart a lively faith, a firm hope, an ardent charity, and an unlimited confidence, that I may share in all the treasures of grace reserved for me in this divine Sacrament.”

* “He [the confessor] knows how much greater than your sins is the Mercy of God, this Mercy which grants you pardon through his ministry. He applies to you the infinite merits of the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ with which he can wash away all stains from your soul.” – St. John Bosco (God’s mercy is greater than every sin in the same way that light [“God is light” – 1 John 1:5] is greater than darkness. Darkness cannot limit light; nor can the darkness of our sin fail to be consumed by the light of God’s love when we open our hearts and souls with humility and trust. St. Margaret Mary was told that our sins are like a drop of water up against the blazing furnace of God’s love, which burns eternally.)

“Come all of you to Me and fear not, for I Love you all… I will wash you in My Blood and you shall be made whiter than snow. All of your offences will be submerged in the waters in which I myself shall wash you, nor shall anything whatsoever be able to tear from My Heart its Love for you.” – Jesus to Sr. Josefa Menendez

“Daughter, when you go to confession, to this fountain of My mercy, the Blood and Water which came forth from My heart always flows down upon your soul and ennobles it…Tell souls that from this fount of mercy souls draw graces solely with the vessel of trust. If their trust is great, there is no limit to My generosity.” – Jesus to St. Faustina (Diary, 1602) (In other words, God INFALLIBLY grants His mercy in this beautiful Sacrament, but it is our DISPOSITION that determines how much mercy we actually receive. It is not as though God choses who He will and won’t forgive. He has promised mercy to all because He loves all. If a soul does not receive all the graces on offer in this Sacrament- as in the Sacrament of Holy Communion- it is due to OUR lack of faith, humility or contrition).

Approach this Sacrament with a boundless trust, because God’s mercy is boundless and the graces He pours upon you are also boundless.
